**Harris Warns Iran Against Retaliation After Israeli Counterstrike**

Vice President Kamala Harris expressed concerns on Saturday over the potential repercussions if Iran retaliates against Israel's recent military actions. During an interview with CBS Evening News anchor Norah O'Donnell in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Harris urged Tehran to avoid responding to Israel's counterstrike, labeling such a move as "a mistake."

"We are prepared to defend Israel, as we have before. We will again," Harris stated, emphasizing the need for de-escalation in the region. She disclosed that diplomatic and other channels are actively being used to ensure tensions do not escalate further.

The Israeli military launched precise strikes on Iranian military targets early Saturday morning in response to an October 1 missile attack by Iran, which involved about 200 ballistic missiles aimed at Israel. Iranian state media reported explosions in Tehran, but the government downplayed the impact, citing "limited damage" and confirming the death of four soldiers.

President Biden, speaking in Philadelphia en route to a campaign event, confirmed that the U.S. had prior knowledge of the Israeli strikes and reiterated that they targeted only military sites. He expressed hope that this would mark the end of hostilities. A senior Biden administration official described Israel’s action as an act of self-defense and highlighted that the U.S. did not partake in the operation. President Biden had previously advised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to design a response that deterred future attacks while minimizing escalation.

Netanyahu's office clarified that Israel chose its targets based solely on its national interests and not according to American directives. This follows the Biden administration’s approval in August of $20 billion in weapons sales to Israel, underscoring the alliance between the two nations.

When pressed on whether U.S. intelligence suggested that Iran planned to retaliate, Harris did not confirm but reiterated the U.S. stance against any response from Iran, warning it would be a significant mistake. She left open the possibility of further actions if Iran were to retaliate, saying, "I'll keep you posted."
