### Verizon Faces Service Outages, Engineers Working on a Fix

Verizon users nationwide have been experiencing significant connectivity issues. On Monday, the carrier confirmed to CNET that it is actively addressing problems that have led to widespread service outages affecting a portion of its customer base.

In a statement issued Monday morning, a Verizon spokesperson acknowledged, "We are aware of an issue impacting service for some customers. Our engineers are engaged, and we are working quickly to identify and solve the issue." Despite these efforts, as of 4:53 p.m. ET, the problem persisted, though Verizon noted that engineers are making progress towards restoring service.

The exact nature of the issues and the number of people impacted remain unclear. However, Verizon has clarified that these problems are not connected to Hurricane Helene, which recently hit the US over the weekend. Some customers have reported that their phones are stuck in "SOS mode," limiting them to emergency communications only.

According to Downdetector, a platform for user-reported outages, cities like Chicago, Atlanta, and New York have seen an uptick in reported issues. T-Mobile and AT&T have stated that their networks are operating normally and any complications their users face could stem from attempting to connect with Verizon customers.

"We know how much people rely on Verizon and apologize for any inconvenience some of our customers experienced today. We continue to work around the clock to fully resolve this issue," Verizon said in an updated statement. While service restoration efforts are ongoing, users are encouraged to seek alternative communication methods until the issue is fully resolved.
