In a newly released document titled "Declaration 'Dignitas Infinita' on Human Dignity," the Vatican has outlined Pope Francis's rejection of gender-affirming surgery, surrogacy, and abortion. The 20-page declaration, which has been in the works for five years, highlights a range of perceived threats to humanity.

Published on Monday, the document approved for publishing on March 25 by the Pope, addresses pressing issues such as the death penalty, war, assisted dying, abortion, sexual abuse, and the abuse of women. However, it is the Vatican's stance on gender-related matters that has drawn attention.

The Vatican document reiterates Catholic teachings on gender theory, surrogacy, and abortion, despite Pope Francis's previous statement that the criminalization of LGBT individuals around the world is unjust. The document quotes the Pope describing gender-affirming surgery as a form of "ideological colonization" and emphasizes the importance of recognizing and preserving sexual differences between men and women, which it refers to as "the most beautiful and powerful."

According to the document, any attempt to obscure these differences and promote gender theory as a means of achieving equality is "extremely dangerous." The Vatican strongly dismisses gender-affirming surgery, stating that it risks undermining the unique dignity individuals possess since conception. However, the document does make a distinction, allowing medical intervention for individuals with "genital abnormalities."

While the Vatican's stance on gender-affirming surgery and abortion aligns with traditional Catholic teachings, it has been met with criticism from LGBTQ+ advocates who argue that it perpetuates discrimination and exclusion. They contend that gender-affirming surgery and the right to bodily autonomy are vital for the well-being and self-identity of transgender individuals.

With the publication of the "Infinite Dignity" document, the Vatican reaffirms its position on these contentious issues, sparking discussion and debate about the intersection of faith, human rights, and LGBTQ+ rights in the modern world. As opinions continue to diverge, the impact of the Vatican's stance on the lives of marginalized individuals remains a topic of ongoing concern.
