A shocking incident at the University of South Carolina has led to the arrest of Ashlyn Watkins, a junior star on the women's basketball team. Watkins faces charges of assault and kidnapping following an alleged incident that occurred on Saturday morning.

According to warrants filed by USC Police, the incident took place at a student housing center located at 650 Lincoln Street. Reports state that Watkins forcefully grabbed the victim's face, pulled her by her arms, and pushed her. The warrants further alleged that Watkins picked up the victim against her will and carried her, as well as forcibly controlling her movements and preventing her from leaving by grabbing her head and forcing her down the hall.

The victim managed to escape and pulled a fire alarm, which prompted the arrival of police and fire personnel. She received medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries resulting from the assault.

Watkins has been detained, with jail records showing that she was granted a $30,000 personal recognizance bond. She was charged with kidnapping and first-degree assault and battery. Notably, Watkins was released a few hours after her arrest.

The talented athlete, who hails from Columbia and graduated from Cardinal Newman High School, had been a key contributor to the women's basketball team's recent national championship success.

The University of South Carolina Athletics Department has been contacted for comment on the incident. While they acknowledged being aware of the situation, they have stated that they are still in the process of gathering more information.

This incident has sent shockwaves through the university community, raising concerns about the safety and well-being of students on campus. As authorities delve deeper into this case, the accused athlete's future with the women's basketball team remains uncertain.
