### Gaza Hospital Devastated Amid Israeli Raids, Leaving One Doctor to Plead for Help

A Gaza hospital has been left in tatters with only one doctor remaining to tend to patients after an extensive Israeli military operation, according to the health ministry controlled by Hamas. In a video appeal, Dr. Khalil Daqran urgently called on international organizations to send medical staff to Kamal Adwan Hospital in the besieged northern strip, highlighting that patients were bleeding to death due to inadequate care.

The Israeli raid, which took place over several days, culminated on Monday with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announcing the detention of approximately 100 "terrorists" from the facility. The IDF alleged that Hamas had been using the hospital, located inside the Jabalia refugee camp, for militant activities—a charge vehemently denied by local health officials.

Elaborating on the aftermath, Dr. Daqran described the scene: "The army stormed Kamal Adwan Hospital, causing widespread destruction. Large parts were set on fire, the entrances were destroyed, and surrounding walls demolished. Patients and medical staff were assaulted, with numerous individuals arrested." He further disclosed that the fate of 30 medical personnel remains unknown, and the hospital has been rendered nonoperational with no medicines, medical supplies, or provisions available.

In contrast, the IDF characterized their mission as a "precise operation" targeting a Hamas stronghold, emphasizing efforts to minimize civilian casualties and facilitating the hospital's evacuation. The IDF claimed to have discovered weapons, cash, and documents linked to Hamas during the raid. They also released a controversial video purportedly showing the interrogation of an ambulance driver who alleged that Hamas militants operated from within the hospital. This driver's identity was obscured, and the video's authenticity has not been independently confirmed.

The raid, according to health officials, resulted in injured medical staff and the deaths of several patients.

The northern Gaza Strip is now in the throes of a worsening humanitarian crisis. Dr. Daqran painted a grim picture of the conditions: "There is no water, food, or baby formula. Infrastructure has been decimated, and the accumulation of sewage and waste is fostering the spread of diseases."

UN human rights chief Volker Türk condemned the situation on Friday, asserting that the Israeli military's actions amount to a collective punishment of the civilian population through bombing, siege, and the risk of starvation. Türk voiced concerns that the heavy-handed tactics could lead to atrocity crimes, potentially escalating to crimes against humanity. He also criticized Palestinian armed groups for reportedly positioning themselves among civilians, including in shelters for the displaced.

Amid this turmoil, local sentiment suggests that the Israeli military might be enacting a so-called "Generals' Plan," aiming to forcibly displace approximately 400,000 civilians to the south and besiege any remaining Hamas fighters. The Israeli military refuted these claims, insisting it is taking measures to ensure civilian safety.

Following a severe assault by Hamas on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which saw about 1,200 people killed and 251 taken hostage, Israel initiated this intense campaign against Hamas. Since then, Gaza's health ministry has reported over 42,000 casualties.

The situation remains dire, with calls for international intervention growing louder as the humanitarian crisis deepens.
