**Biden and Trump to Meet at White House for Transition Talks**
President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump are set to meet at the White House this Wednesday morning, as announced by officials over the weekend. The two leaders will convene in the Oval Office at 11 a.m., according to a statement from White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
This announcement comes four days after Donald Trump's victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential election. The Trump transition team's response to media requests has remained absent. Despite the contentious race, both Biden and Harris have reiterated their commitment to a peaceful transfer of power. In her concession speech at Howard University, Harris stated that she had congratulated Trump on his win and assured him of a cooperative transition.
On Thursday, Trump commended Harris in a phone call with NBC News, expressing his appreciation for her dedication to a seamless transition. He mentioned that Harris emphasized the importance of a smooth process, a sentiment he agreed with wholeheartedly.
Echoing these remarks, Biden, during a separate address on Thursday, assured that he would honor his presidential duties and uphold the Constitution, promising a peaceful transition of power come January 20.
This contrast sharply with the 2020 transition period, where the Trump administration initially resisted the transition process following their defeat. It wasn't until early January, amidst significant unrest, that Trump conceded to an orderly handover of power to Biden. Notably, Trump had chosen not to invite Biden to the White House back then, breaking from the tradition he had followed in 2016 when he met outgoing President Barack Obama.
This upcoming meeting marks a noteworthy step towards ensuring a smooth handover, reflecting both parties' commitment to upholding democratic norms.
