In a recent development, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has accused Israel of spreading misinformation about him during the extended war between Israel and Palestinian terrorists Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Although not explicitly naming Israel, Guterres made these accusations during a news conference on information integrity.

"I've heard the same source many times saying that I never attacked Hamas, that I never condemned Hamas, that I am a supporter of Hamas," stated Guterres, strongly refuting these claims. He clarified that he had condemned Hamas a total of 102 times, with 51 of those condemnations taking place in formal speeches and the rest on various social platforms. Guterres firmly expressed his belief that "the truth, in the end, always wins."

Israel's UN Ambassador Gilad Erdan, however, dismissively labeled Guterres' comments as "empty words when compared to his actions." Erdan accused the Secretary-General of working to ensure Hamas's survival during the conflict and criticized his refusal to adhere to the United Nations' standards. Erdan went on to describe Guterres as an "accomplice to terror" and demanded his immediate resignation.

The strained relationship between the United Nations and Israel has been magnified during the Israel-Hamas war. Israel has repeatedly accused the UN of bias against it and has made claims that UN staff members have been collaborating with Hamas and other terrorist organizations. The UN has initiated investigations into some of these allegations, but has stated that it has yet to receive concrete evidence from Israel in many cases.

The ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip has created a highly charged environment, with accusations and counter-accusations being flung from both sides. The clash between Guterres and Israel's UN Ambassador further highlights the deep divisions and challenges faced in the pursuit of peace and stability in the region.

As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how these accusations and counter-accusations will impact future relations between Israel and the United Nations, and whether any concrete steps will be taken to address the ongoing tensions.
