In a surprising turn of events, Ukraine has launched a land invasion into Russia, marking the first such incursion since World War II. The move has left Russian President Vladimir Putin astonished, according to former CIA Station Chief and Fox News contributor, Dan Hoffman.

The invasion has caused significant repercussions, with Russia launching a massive missile strike on Ukraine's critical infrastructure on Monday. This attack, the largest since the war began, targeted key energy installations in 15 regions across the country and resulted in the deaths of five people, as well as many injuries. The strikes were believed to be a direct response to Ukraine's incursion into the Kursk Oblast, breaching Russia's border.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who anticipated Russia's retaliation, made the bold decision to proceed with the invasion. His motivation, according to Rebekah Koffler of Fox News Digital, is driven by the need to stay in the fight both personally and professionally. Zelenskyy is seeking increased weapons and financing from the West, specifically urging the Biden Administration to lift restrictions on the use of U.S.-provided weapons so that Ukrainian forces can strike deeper targets within Russia.

The Russian retaliation did not stop with a single strike. Overnight Monday, Russia unleashed a second volley of missiles and drones, resulting in the deaths of at least two people in the Zaporizhzhia region. However, Ukraine managed to limit the impact of the second strike by using newly-deployed F16s to shoot down multiple missiles and drones.

World leaders have condemned Russia's actions, with President Biden labeling the attacks as "outrageous" and vowing to support Ukraine's energy grid. British Foreign Secretary David Lammy ridiculed the missile and drone attacks as "cowardly," particularly when targeting civilian infrastructure.

As Ukraine pushes forward with its invasion, the country is compiling a list of long-range targets to strike if Western allies agree to lift restrictions on defensive capabilities. However, experts like Rebekah Koffler warn that Ukraine's aggressive actions could potentially backfire, leaving them vulnerable to attrition in the face of Russia's overwhelming manpower advantage.

While the aim of President Putin is not a decisive military victory, but rather the degradation of Ukraine's defensive and industrial capacity, the question remains whether the Biden-Harris Administration will adjust their policy to allow Ukraine to erode Russia's red lines more aggressively.

Peace efforts, although distant, continue to be pursued by various world leaders. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, in his capacity as the rotating chair of the European Union, has sought talks with both Zelenskyy and Putin to find a path towards peace. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also joined the efforts, holding discussions with Zelenskyy, President Biden, and President Putin in an attempt to bring an end to the conflict.

As the situation escalates and tensions rise, the world watches anxiously for any signs of a resolution to this ongoing crisis.
