Hundreds of students at UC San Diego are in their fourth day of protest, maintaining the "Gaza Solidarity" encampment on campus. One of their primary demands is for the university to divest from all Israeli financial interests, but they claim that the administration has not responded to their calls.

Speaking on behalf of the Palestinian Youth Movement, Subrein Damanhoury expressed disappointment at the lack of communication from university administrators. Despite their continuous efforts to engage with the students, no response has been received for the past four days.

UC San Diego spokesperson Matt Nagel informed that the fire marshal and health inspector attempted to discuss health and safety protocols at the encampment but were met with resistance. Students gathered at the entrance, chanting to prevent any authorities from entering until their demands were met. Increased police presence was observed at the scene, but tensions remained peaceful as campus administrators chose to disengage.

Damanhoury noted that the encampment, which currently houses around 150 students, is steadily growing each day. She emphasized that the purpose is not hateful, as various groups such as the Muslim community, Palestinians, Arabs, Jewish Voices for Peace, and even UCSD itself are present inside the encampment, offering support and unity.

While UCSD has stated that the encampment is in violation of campus policy, it remains unclear what action or response will be taken by the university. Students, however, have expressed their commitment to staying at the encampment until their demands are met.

The "Gaza Solidarity" encampment protests on the UCSD campus are part of a broader trend of college campus protests across the nation. Authorities have reported nearly 2,200 arrests related to such demonstrations, reflecting the intensity and scale of the ongoing student activism.

As the encampment enters its fourth day, the students are determined to maintain a peaceful atmosphere while awaiting a response from UCSD administrators.
