Rochester, N.Y. - Two women tragically lost their lives in a mass shooting that occurred during a cookout at Maplewood Park on Sunday evening. The incident left five others with life-altering injuries, prompting city leaders to call for assistance in identifying those responsible for the senseless violence.

According to Mayor Malik Evans, the shooting took place around 6:20 p.m. while hundreds of people were gathered at the park. Police Chief David Smith described the event as a peaceful barbecue with no prior signs of disruption or aggression among attendees before multiple shots were fired from different weapons.

The victims, identified as Tyasia Manning, 25, and Phylicia Council, 34, were fatally wounded in the attack. Mayor Evans expressed outrage at the perpetrators, condemning their cowardly behavior and emphasizing the community's right to enjoy public spaces without fear of violence.

City Councilmember Bridget Monroe, representing the district that includes Maplewood Park, emphasized Rochester's intolerance towards such acts of terror. She urged community members to come forward and help identify those responsible for the tragic incident that took place during what was meant to be a joyful family event at the cherished park.

Evans called on residents to assist in holding the individuals who brought violence to the gathering accountable, reaffirming the community's commitment to justice and safety for all.
