In a disappointing turn of events, Jon Rahm, a two-time major winner, announced his withdrawal from this week's U.S. Open Championship due to an injury in his left foot. The Spaniard, who recently triumphed at the 2022 U.S. Open, took to his X account to share the news, expressing his regret at not being able to compete and emphasizing the importance of prioritizing his long-term health.

Rahm, who is currently competing in his first season on the LIV Golf Tour, had also withdrawn from last week's LIV event in Houston due to the same foot injury. Describing it as a lesion between his pinky toe and fourth toe that had become infected, the golfer spoke about the pain and discomfort he had been experiencing.

During a pre-tournament news conference, Rahm appeared with a flip-flop and a toe separator on his left foot, indicating the severity of his condition. Despite being administered a pain-numbing shot in Houston to enable him to play, Rahm was unable to continue due to the persistent pain. Although the infection is now under control with antibiotic treatment, the swelling and pain have not completely subsided.

Acknowledging the uncertain nature of his recovery, Rahm expressed doubt about his ability to compete and believed it was best to withdraw from the U.S. Open. The golfer did not want to participate in a tournament if he didn't feel physically capable of winning.

Rahm, who finished tied for 45th at the Masters and missed the cut at last month's PGA Championship, now aims to focus on his recovery ahead of The Open Championship in July. While disappointed by his absence from the U.S. Open, Rahm extended his well wishes to his fellow competitors and thanked the USGA staff, volunteers, and the Pinehurst community for their efforts in hosting the championship.

The golfing world will now wait anxiously for Rahm's return, hoping that the talented Spanish golfer will be back in action sooner rather than later.
