In the ongoing saga surrounding Mayor Tiffany Henyard of Dolton, a small town in Chicago, the board members have made a significant move by appointing a mayor pro tempore to serve in the mayor's place if she refuses to execute her duties. Trustee Jason House has been voted in as the mayor pro tempore during a special meeting held on Monday, as reported by Fox 32 Chicago.

The appointment of a mayor pro tempore means that House can oversee village business, sign off on important documents, and authorize payments in Henyard's absence. This decision comes amidst allegations of corruption against Mayor Henyard, drawing national attention to the town, which has a population of approximately 21,500.

Residents of Dolton have been vocal in calling for Henyard's resignation, with some even booing her at the last Village Board meeting she attended. The board accuses Henyard of disregarding crucial village business, prompting their decision to ensure that Dolton can continue to function efficiently and that residents can receive necessary services. WGN reports that Henyard has missed 25 special meetings and has refused to allow certain business items to be included in the village's regular meeting agendas.

Trustee Jason House emphasized that the appointment of a mayor pro tempore is not a replacement for Mayor Henyard but a measure taken to ensure village operations move forward in case of her refusal or inability to perform her duties. House stated during Monday night's trustee meeting, as reported by Fox 32, "We're just really trying to make sure that if something critical comes up, that there's a signature on deck that can move it forward."

However, according to one report, Mayor Henyard is expected to veto this action as she has already vetoed previous requests by the board, including launching a federal investigation into her alleged misuse of funds. Furthermore, she vetoed the hiring of former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, who was intended to lead a special investigation into Henyard's actions. Henyard insisted that she would not be paid for the investigation, but Lightfoot was being compensated at a rate of $400 an hour to gather information regarding the alleged mismanagement of funds.

Mayor Tiffany Henyard has faced severe criticism and has been dubbed the "worst mayor in America" by her critics. Multiple allegations have been leveled against her, ranging from weaponizing police raids to using taxpayer money for personal luxuries in Las Vegas. Recent accusations also involve an alleged sexual assault of one of her allies during their Vegas trip, leading to the alleged victim's termination after speaking out. Henyard's cancer charity is additionally under scrutiny, with the FBI serving federal subpoenas last month as part of an ongoing investigation. It's worth noting that Henyard herself was not served with the subpoenas.

The first subpoena requested employment records and disciplinary reports for 25 Dolton employees, including three police officers and Keith Freeman, village administrator and Henyard's top aide. Notably, Freeman was charged with bankruptcy fraud on Monday. The second subpoena focused specifically on Freeman, seeking records related to his associated companies and possible ties to the town.

Previous reports indicated that the FBI had initiated an investigation into Mayor Henyard based on statements given by six individuals, including business owners, former village employees, and public officials. Fox News Digital reached out to Mayor Henyard's office for comment but has not received a response thus far.

In the midst of these scandals, Mayor Henyard has previously appealed to racial politics, accusing her detractors of targeting her as a Black woman in power. However, critics argue that her alleged misconduct and extravagant lifestyle, supported by a combined salary of nearly $300,000 - surpassing even the state's governor - contradict her claim of being a representative chosen by God.

As the Dolton saga continues, many compare the situation to a "real-life Parks and Recreation" scenario, pointing out the wild antics and controversial actions surrounding the embattled mayor. The appointment of a mayor pro tempore by the board members is intended to bring stability to the town's governance and address the concerns of residents who have been left disillusioned by the ongoing controversies.

As the situation unfolds, Dolton awaits Mayor Henyard's response and the potential impact it may have on the local government's ability to function effectively and regain the trust of its constituents.
