**Palmer Lake Mayor Glant Havenar Resigns Amid Buc-ee's Debate**

Palmer Lake Mayor Glant Havenar has officially resigned, ending her tenure just months into her second term. Her resignation comes amidst a turbulent period for the small Colorado town, embroiled in controversies over a proposed Buc-ee's location.

Havenar, who was re-elected in November 2024, stepped down effective Thursday. She moved to Palmer Lake in 2003 and had previously served two terms as a trustee before taking on the mayoral role. In addition to her responsibilities as mayor, Havenar also represented Palmer Lake on the Board of Directors for the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments and the El Paso County Board of Health.

Her departure marks a significant turning point in the ongoing debate surrounding the Texas-based convenience store Buc-ee's. The proposal has ignited lawsuits, recall efforts, and intense divisions among the residents of Palmer Lake.

In her farewell statement, Havenar expressed deep gratitude and reflection. "Serving this town for the past 12 years—in many capacities—has been one of the greatest honors of my life," she said. She urged the community to continue supporting the Town Board and to stand united against opposition.

Havenar's resignation leaves the current Town Board to navigate the contentious Buc-ee's proposal without her. Despite the challenges, she remains hopeful for Palmer Lake's future, stating, "Your voice, your courage, and your unity are what make Palmer Lake a place worth believing in."

The town of Palmer Lake now faces the task of moving forward without its mayor amid one of the most contentious periods in its recent history.
