Former President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday his intention to revoke the immigration status of Haitian migrants currently living legally in the United States. This latest declaration marks a new phase in his increasingly stringent stance on immigration, now targeting migrants with legal protections.

Speaking to NewsNation from Houston, Texas, Trump specifically targeted the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) granted to Haitian immigrants. He stated his plan to terminate their TPS and "bring them back to their country." This is not the first time Trump has sought to end TPS; during his administration, he attempted to halt TPS for approximately 400,000 migrants from multiple countries, including Haiti, Nepal, Sudan, Nicaragua, and El Salvador. However, this initiative was blocked by a federal judge.

In his speech, Trump reiterated inflammatory claims regarding the impact of migrants on communities, singling out an influx of migrants in Springfield, Ohio. He portrayed the integration of thousands of Haitian migrants into the town as unfeasible, amplifying his earlier controversial statements.

The former President's recent comments come amidst broader accusations. A Haitian group has filed criminal charges against Trump and Senator J.D. Vance over unsubstantiated remarks that suggested Haitian immigrants in Springfield were eating pets, accusations both Trump and Vance have echoed publicly. These claims have been widely debunked.
