Former President Donald Trump has declared that he will not seek re-election in 2028 if he loses the upcoming presidential election to Democratic vice president Kamala Harris. In an interview with Full Disclosure, Trump stated that he does not anticipate running again if he fails to secure victory on November 5, stressing that he believes it will be the end of his presidential aspirations. Trump's statement marks the first time he has ruled out the possibility of pursuing the presidency once more in the event of an election loss.

Trump's eligibility for the 2028 race would be rendered void if he emerges victorious in the current election due to the term limit imposed by the 22nd amendment to the US constitution. Despite this, the former president has previously hinted at the notion of seeking a third term if re-elected. In a speech at the National Rifle Association's annual meeting earlier this year, Trump made a reference to Franklin D. Roosevelt's four-term presidency, raising questions about the possibility of extending his time in office beyond the traditional two terms.

Recent polls indicate that Trump is trailing behind Kamala Harris by five percentage points nationally, with Harris holding 49 percent of the vote among registered voters compared to Trump's 44 percent. This marks a significant shift from previous polls, which had shown Trump leading against his former opponent Joe Biden. Notably, Harris has seen a 16-point increase in favorability since July, reflecting a positive trend in public perception. The latest poll also revealed that 48 percent of voters hold a positive view of Harris, while 45 percent view her negatively.
