**Trump Pushes Forward with Increased Tariffs Amid Legal Scrutiny**

President Donald Trump is preparing to increase tariffs on steel and aluminum, despite ongoing challenges from U.S. courts regarding the legitimacy of other tariffs he has implemented. During his visit to a U.S. Steel plant in Pennsylvania, he announced that he would double the existing tariffs on these metals to 50 percent, starting June 4. The president asserts that this measure will provide better protection for domestic steel and aluminum manufacturers.

While the courts are scrutinizing several of Trump's tariffs, notably those targeting Canada, Mexico, and China due to their alleged roles in the fentanyl trade, the administration remains determined. Judgements are imminent as states and businesses that have sued will soon be called upon to provide further information, facilitating the courts' final decisions on the legality of these tariffs.

The Court of International Trade delivered a ruling last Wednesday pronouncing some of Trump's steep tariffs illegal, marking a significant setback for his trade agenda. However, a different court temporarily stayed this decision less than 24 hours later. As the judges review the appeal, these contested tariffs will continue to be in effect until at least June 9.

Amid this legal turmoil, one of the president's top trade advisers reaffirmed on Sunday that the administration will persist in its efforts to impose tariffs on other countries, undeterred by the court's unfavorable ruling against a key component of Trump’s trade policy.
