Former President Donald Trump has confirmed his attendance at the annual Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner, a prestigious white-tie charity event in New York City. The event, scheduled for October 17, is known for showcasing prominent political figures who humorously poke fun at each other and current issues. In contrast, Vice President Kamala Harris has decided not to attend the dinner as she focuses on campaigning in battleground states leading up to the election, according to the Harris campaign.

Trump expressed disappointment over Harris's absence, suggesting that her decision reflects poorly on her relationship with Catholic voters. The Alfred E. Smith dinner, which benefits Catholic charities, is named after the former governor of New York, who was the first Catholic to win a major party nomination for president. Alfred E. Smith, known for his sense of humor, served as governor for four terms and was the Democratic nominee for president in 1928, eventually losing to Herbert Hoover.

In past years, notable political figures such as Trump, Hillary Clinton, President Joe Biden, and Archbishop of New York Timothy Dolan have participated in the event. Actor and comedian Jim Gaffigan, who will serve as the master of ceremonies this year, has previously criticized Trump on social media. The Al Smith dinner, historically filled with light-hearted jabs and jokes, will provide attendees with an evening of entertainment while also supporting charitable causes.
