### Trump's Transition Team Questions Pete Hegseth's Nomination for Defense Secretary

Following the resurfacing of a past police investigation into a sexual assault allegation, Donald Trump’s transition team is re-evaluating their decision to appoint Pete Hegseth as the head of the Defense Department. The Washington Post disclosed details about a 2017 complaint involving Hegseth, which has caused significant unease among Trump's inner circle.

The allegations revolved around an incident in Monterey, California, where a woman claimed that Hegseth assaulted her in a hotel after a Republican conference. This information was relayed to Trump's team through a complaint filed by a friend of the alleged victim. The friend subsequently signed a nondisclosure agreement with Hegseth.

Despite the police finding no evidence of wrongdoing and no criminal charges being issued against Hegseth, members of Trump’s team were taken aback by the comprehensive nature of the allegations. According to a source who spoke to the Post on the condition of anonymity, there is considerable frustration amongst team members who feel that Hegseth had not been thoroughly vetted.

Concerns are growing within the transition team that more damaging revelations regarding Hegseth could emerge. The source, fearing retaliation, stated, "He hadn't been properly vetted," expressing worry about the potential for additional controversies to come to light.
