In a recent interview on Fox News Sunday, Senator J.D. Vance, the running mate of former President Donald Trump, made baseless claims about the use of "fake polls" by the media to project Vice President Kamala Harris in the lead of the presidential race. Vance accused the media of manipulating poll results to drive down Republican turnout and create division among Republican voters, without providing any evidence to support his allegations.
During the interview, Fox host Shannon Bream noted a recent poll released by The Washington Post-ABC, which showed Vice President Harris leading nationally with a four to five-point advantage among registered voters. Bream emphasized that these numbers indicated a significant momentum in Harris' favor, based on various polling data.
Senator Vance contested the validity of the polls, claiming that other polls portrayed Harris as stagnating and leveling off. He particularly criticized The Washington Post-ABC for being an inaccurate pollster during the summer of 2020. Despite Vance's objections, the data suggests that Harris is performing better than Biden at a similar stage of the race before he dropped out.
Vance further asserted that insiders from the Kamala Harris campaign were expressing concerns about her current position in the race. However, these claims were made without providing any specific details or evidence to support them.
Contrary to Vance's statements, additional polls conducted by The New York Times and Siena College indicated Harris leading in key swing states such as Arizona and North Carolina. She also gained ground in Nevada and Georgia. Even traditionally conservative pollster Rasmussen showed Harris with a one-point lead in Michigan, another significant battleground state.
Although it is still early in the race and Harris' leads are within the margin of error, her position is likely to strengthen following the Democratic National Convention. This prospect seems to have raised concerns within the Trump campaign, evident by Vance's resorting to baseless attacks on Harris. In one such remark, Vance compared Harris being in control of inflation policy to giving Jeffrey Epstein control over human trafficking policy, drawing criticism for its nonsensical nature.
Meanwhile, it is worth noting that former President Trump recently attended campaign events on a private jet that was previously owned by Epstein, the late billionaire who had a controversial association with Trump.
These allegations of "fake polls" and baseless attacks against Harris from the Trump campaign reflect the growing unease surrounding Harris' rising popularity. While it is essential to approach poll results with caution and consider the margin of error, the numbers, as they currently stand, offer a positive outlook for Vice President Kamala Harris as the presidential race progresses.
