Former US President Donald Trump unleashed a barrage of tweets and a live on-air tirade in response to Kamala Harris's Democratic National Convention speech. Trump took to his Truth Social network to post 48 times during the 37-minute presidential acceptance speech, which was significantly shorter than his own effort at the Republican convention. Notably, he called out Hunter Biden, Joe Biden's son, at the beginning of the speech, referring to him as he questioned Harris's "rapid" thank yous. Throughout the evening, Trump repeatedly attacked Harris, labeling her a "Marxist" and questioning her ability to act on her complaints.

In his tweets, Trump even declared that under a hypothetical Harris presidency, there would be "no future" and predicted a catastrophic "Nuclear World War III." Responding to Harris's statement about his influence on killing a bipartisan bill to address immigration at the southern border, Trump criticized the bill as a "TOTAL DISASTER" that would have allowed millions into the country. In one of the rare instances where he targeted someone other than Harris, Trump dismissed Tim Walz as a football coach, not a head coach.

Despite Trump's attempts to rebut and criticize, Harris's speech received positive reactions, even from some conservative corners. Scott Jennings, a former White House aide to George W Bush, commended her for displaying "presidential plausibility" and described her as a contrast to Joe Biden. However, the Republican pushback focused on the lack of specificity in her speech and the potential to tie her to Biden's economic policies, which have faced criticism.

The intensity of Trump's response and his incoherent tweets prompted Washington Post commentator Dan Balz to note that Harris's rise to the top of the Democratic ticket had left Trump "in a box" and uncertain about his next move. Balz further highlighted that Harris had managed to outshine Trump in terms of crowd enthusiasm and convention ratings, a fact that seemed to irk the former president. Trump's supporters on the far-right also conceded that Harris's messaging posed a dire threat to his prospects.

A notable revelation came from conservative commentator Eric Bolling, who expressed frustration over Trump's lack of new ideas and the dominance of the Harris campaign in the media landscape. Bolling highlighted the Democrats' attempt to redefine their party as patriotic and inclusive, challenging Republican voters. He also critiqued Fox News for supposedly leaning towards the Democratic side, further adding to Trump's frustration.

Despite calls from Republicans like Lindsey Graham to focus on policy rather than personal attacks, Trump's reaction to Harris's speech exemplified his struggle to maintain discipline on the campaign trail. During a call with Fox News, he grew irritated when confronted with the suggestion of Harris's success in the polls, passionately asserting that he was the one garnering support across various demographics.

The back-and-forth between Trump and Harris underscores the intense rivalry and division in American politics. As the campaign trail continues, the question remains as to how Harris's speech, Trump's responses, and the ongoing policy debates will shape the outcome of the upcoming elections.
