**Trump's Fundraiser for Hurricane Helene Victims Surpasses $2 Million**
WASHINGTON - A fundraiser spearheaded by former President Donald Trump to aid victims of Hurricane Helene has successfully amassed over $2 million by Tuesday. This initiative was organized on the crowdfunding platform GoFundMe by Meredith O'Rourke, the national finance director for Trump's campaign. Earlier this year, O'Rourke also set up a similar campaign for those affected by the shooting at Trump's rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Steven Cheung, a spokesperson for Trump's campaign, has confirmed to USA TODAY the legitimacy and authorization of the GoFundMe page by Trump himself. The fundraiser has garnered support from over 14,000 donors. Notably, former Republican Senator Kelly Loeffler of Georgia contributed a significant $500,000.
According to the fund's GoFundMe page, all contributions will directly assist those most impacted by the catastrophic Hurricane Helene. The page emphasizes that any level of generosity will significantly aid fellow Americans in dire need.
Hurricane Helene left a trail of destruction across southeastern states, particularly devastating North Carolina and Florida. The natural disaster claimed over 100 lives and caused widespread power outages, leaving millions in the dark. Certain areas in western North Carolina experienced over 30 inches of rainfall, resulting in entire communities being washed away.
O'Rourke highlighted the nation's resilience and the outstanding response from individuals on the ground. She acknowledged the severe level of devastation seen over recent days and praised the collective efforts in providing aid to those most affected.
