In a recent heated exchange, former President Donald Trump did not hold back in his criticism of rock legend Bruce Springsteen. This came after Springsteen's vocal disapproval of Trump's presidency during a European concert. Speaking to a crowd in Manchester, England, Springsteen condemned Trump for leading what he called a "corrupt, incompetent and treasonous administration." He urged his audience to stand up for democracy and resist authoritarianism.
Trump, currently on a tour of the Middle East, quickly retaliated via his social media platform, Truth Social. He dismissed Springsteen as a "dried out prune of a rocker," criticizing both his music and political views. Trump declared that he never liked Springsteen or his "Radical Left Politics". He further lambasted Springsteen for supporting "Crooked Joe Biden," whom he called a "mentally incompetent FOOL" and "our WORST EVER President."
Particularly, Trump took issue with the fact that Springsteen’s comments were made abroad, implying that such remarks would have stirred a different reaction if voiced within the United States. Trump suggested that Springsteen should "KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT until he gets back into the Country."
Springsteen has a history of political endorsements, having supported Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, Joe Biden in 2020, and Hillary Clinton in 2016. During his current tour, Springsteen reinforced the notion that when institutional checks and balances fail, it is the people's responsibility to uphold democratic values. He stressed that unity around common values is essential to protect democracy from authoritarian threats.
This recent exchange underscores the deep divisions within the American political landscape, illustrating how figures from entertainment and politics often collide publicly over their differing ideologies.
