**Trump Holds Lead Over Harris in Latest Arizona Poll as Key Initiatives Loom**
Former President Donald Trump has taken a notable lead over Vice President Kamala Harris in a recent New York Times survey in Arizona, marking his largest advantage among the critical swing states polled. Arizona, a pivotal battleground, will also decide on two high-stakes ballot measures that reflect deeply polarizing issues.
The first measure is the Right to Abortion Initiative, which aims to enshrine abortion rights in the state’s constitution. Democrats, including Harris, are optimistic that the abortion measure will galvanize support, following the success of similar initiatives in seven other states.
On the other side, Trump has pinned his hopes on the passage of a stringent immigration enforcement measure. This proposal seeks to criminalize illegal border crossings from Mexico and empower state authorities to arrest, detain, and even deport migrants. Immigration remains a hot-button issue in Arizona, where the Associated Press reports ongoing frustration over surges in illegal crossings.
Trump's political history in Arizona is marked by controversy. After securing the state in 2016, he narrowly lost to President Joe Biden in 2020 by a margin of just 10,457 votes. However, Trump disputed the results, falsely claiming that the voter database in Maricopa County had been erased. These claims were debunked by Republican officials, including Maricopa County recorder Stephen Richer, who described Trump's allegations as "unhinged." Furthermore, Trump attempted to convince former Arizona Governor Doug Ducey to overturn the election results by identifying purportedly fraudulent votes, according to The Washington Post.
As Trump and Harris vie for support in six other swing states besides Arizona, the outcomes remain uncertain, fiercely contested, and vital for their political futures.
