### Trump Courts Latino Leaders Amid Poll Showing Lead Over Harris
Former President Donald Trump engaged with Latino leaders in Miami on Tuesday, as a fresh poll revealed he is ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris by 11 points among Latino voters. The event took place at Trump National Doral Miami and was attended by prominent figures such as Florida GOP Representatives Maria Salazar and Carlos Gimenez, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, Florida Senator Rick Scott, and Hialeah Mayor Esteban Bovo.
During the roundtable, Trump took the opportunity to criticize Vice President Harris, who was in Washington, D.C., without any campaign events scheduled. "She's sleeping right now, she couldn't go on the trail," Trump remarked. "You'd think when you had 14 days left, you wouldn't be sleeping. She's not doing anything today, I should take one of those - we've gone 52 days in a row," he added. Trump further labeled Harris as "lazy" and "a radical left lunatic."
The Trump campaign emphasized their confidence in winning over the Latino community. "The Latino community knows that President Donald J. Trump is the only candidate who can bring prosperity back to America," the campaign stated ahead of the event. "That's why they'll turn out in record numbers on November 5th to vote for him to be the 47th President of the United States."
The context of the event was underscored by a new USA Today/Suffolk University poll indicating Trump leading Harris with Latino voters by a substantial margin—49% to Harris' 38%. Although nationally the poll shows a tight race with Harris at 45% and Trump at 44%, the former president has evidently gained significant traction among Latino voters.
The poll also revealed that Black voters favor Harris significantly more, by 72% to Trump's 17%. However, this 55-point lead is notably narrower than the historical advantage typically seen by Democrats. In contrast, in the 2020 race, President Joe Biden received overwhelming support from Black voters at 92% and Latino voters at 59%, according to a Pew Research Center analysis.
Trump’s progress with Latino and Black voters in the 2024 race largely stems from his focus on the economy and crime, targeting male voters in particular. In response to the poll, Harris outlined her plans aimed at making impactful changes for Latino men and their families. Her proposals include job creation, support for small businesses with favorable loan terms, down payment assistance for first-time homebuyers, expansion of the child tax credit, and covering long-term home care costs through Medicare.
