In a recent poll conducted by Emerson College Polling and sponsored by Nexstar Media, former President Donald Trump is shown to maintain a narrow lead over President Joe Biden in several key swing states. The survey, which was conducted between June 13-18, 2024, included a sample size of 1,000 registered voters in each state.
According to the poll, Trump leads Biden in Arizona, Georgia, Wisconsin, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. In Arizona, Trump's lead is 47% to 43%, while in Georgia, it is 45% to 41%. In Wisconsin and Nevada, Trump's edge is 47% to 44% and 46% to 43% respectively. In Pennsylvania and Michigan, the margin is even closer, with Trump ahead by 47% to 45% and 46% to 45% respectively. In Minnesota, however, Biden and Trump are tied at 45%.
Notably, the survey reveals that independent voters in all seven states are leaning towards Trump, but there has been some movement among these voters since April. Trump's support among independents dipped in Arizona, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, while Biden saw a decline in support among independents in Georgia and Nevada.
While Biden trails Trump in these states, Democratic Senate candidates are outperforming the president. Democratic Senate candidates are leading in Arizona, Minnesota, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Senate candidates such as Ruben Gallego in Arizona, Amy Klobuchar in Minnesota, Elissa Slotkin in Michigan, Jacky Rosen in Nevada, Bob Casey in Pennsylvania, and Tammy Baldwin in Wisconsin are all ahead of their Republican opponents.
Furthermore, the survey asked voters about their approval ratings for several state leaders. Arizona's Governor Katie Hobbs, Georgia's Governor Brian Kemp, Michigan's Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Minnesota's Governor Tim Walz, Nevada's Governor Joe Lombardo, and Pennsylvania's Attorney General Josh Shapiro all received approval ratings from voters. The highest approval rating was for Governor Kemp in Georgia at 49%, while the lowest was for Governor Lombardo in Nevada at 37%.
In addition to political preferences, the poll also touched on social issues. Voters in Arizona and Nevada were asked about their support for a constitutional right to abortion in their respective states. The majority of respondents in both states expressed support for this measure.
Overall, the survey highlights the continued competitiveness of the political landscape in the key swing states. With the election approaching, candidates will need to closely monitor these polling dynamics to refine their strategies and engage with voters on the most pressing issues, notably the economy, which remains the top concern in each state.
