Former President Donald Trump hosted the Republican National Committee's spring meeting at his Mar-a-Lago estate over the weekend, where he showcased several individuals who are believed to be contenders for the vice presidential position on the GOP ticket. Among those invited on stage were North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, Republican Senators Marco Rubio of Florida, Tim Scott of South Carolina, and JD Vance of Ohio.

Trump also praised other top party allies, including Representatives Jim Banks of Indiana, Byron Donalds of Florida, Wesley Hunt of Texas, Elise Stefanik of New York, and Michael Waltz of Florida. While the former president did not disclose his serious consideration for the vice presidential position, the gathering presented an opportunity for the hopefuls to make an impression.

Last week, Trump announced that he would make his VP selection closer to the Republican National Convention, scheduled to take place from July 15-18 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Notably absent from the event was Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who had previously stated his lack of interest in being Trump's running mate.

During the spring meeting, Trump refrained from singling out any individual for particular praise and spoke highly of nearly everyone who joined him on stage. According to audio obtained by Axios, Trump specifically mentioned Senator Marco Rubio, stating, "His name is coming up a lot for vice president!"

When contacted for comment, the Trump campaign pointed to the RNC meeting's readout, which did not provide further details about his GOP allies, aside from acknowledging their presence at the gathering.

In addition to discussing potential vice presidential picks, Trump reiterated his support for House Speaker Mike Johnson and dismissed calls for Johnson's removal raised by Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.). The RNC readout highlighted Trump's recognition of Speaker Johnson's leadership and work in the US House, emphasizing the importance of party unity, collaboration, and expanding the GOP's House majority.

As Trump continues to deliberate his vice presidential selection, the anticipation grows among Republican supporters, who eagerly await his announcement at the upcoming Republican National Convention.
