**Trump Continues Personal Attacks on Harris Despite GOP Advice**
In a continued display of personal attacks, former President Donald Trump reiterated his controversial claim that Vice President Kamala Harris was "born mentally impaired." This statement follows previous remarks made at a rally, which had drawn criticism from within his own party. Many Republicans had urged Trump to shift his focus from personal attacks to policy differences, but it appears their advice has fallen on deaf ears.
Amid ongoing criticism, Trump justified his harsh rhetoric by claiming anger towards Harris for her alleged impact on the country. His disdain for Harris since she became the Democratic vice-presidential nominee has seen him not only criticize her intelligence and laugh but also question her racial identity, accusing her of switching from identifying as Indian to Black.
Despite the backlash for what many find offensive and hateful remarks, Trump turned the tables by accusing Harris and President Biden of inciting violence with their rhetoric. In a Fox News Digital interview on September 16, Trump linked a second assassination attempt on him to Biden and Harris' supposed influence, despite the FBI not having released any motive.
Polling data sheds light on the competitive political landscape, with FiveThirtyEight showing Harris leading Trump by 2.8 points in their latest national polling average, while RealClearPolitics reflected a two-point lead for Harris as of Sunday afternoon.
Reacting to Trump's disparaging comments, the American Association of People with Disabilities released a statement denouncing his remarks as "ableist and inaccurate." The organization asserted that Trump’s comments reveal more about his own biases against people with disabilities than they do about Harris or any individual with a disability. They emphasized that Trump's position reflects a false belief that having a disability equates to being less human or deserving of dignity.
