Former president Donald Trump expressed his disapproval of the White House Correspondents' Dinner, slamming both President Joe Biden and "Saturday Night Live" star Colin Jost for their remarks during the annual event. Taking to Truth Social, Trump derided the dinner, stating, "The White House Correspondents' Dinner was really bad. Colin Jost BOMBED, and Crooked Joe was an absolute disaster! Doesn't get much worse than this!"

This year's dinner marked a departure from tradition as Trump chose to skip all White House Correspondents' Dinners during his presidency. Speculation arose that Trump's decision was influenced by the 2011 dinner, where then-President Barack Obama delivered scathing remarks about him.

During this year's event, President Biden used his speech to take aim at his predecessor, humorously remarking, "I'm a grown man running against a 6-year-old. Age is the only thing we have in common. My vice president actually endorses me." Biden also highlighted Trump's legal battles, quipping, "It's after 10 p.m. 'Sleepy Joe' is still awake while Donald Trump has spent the past week falling asleep in court every morning."

Colin Jost, the host for the evening, also took jabs at Trump. Notably, he playfully targeted the New York Post in one of his jokes. However, beneath the banter, the dinner briefly took on a serious tone. President Biden criticized Trump's assault on democracy, saying, "The defeated former president has made no secret of his attack on our democracy. He said he wants to be a dictator on Day One and so much more. He tells supporters he is the revenge and retribution."

Jost momentarily deviated from his comedic routine to praise Biden, sharing a personal anecdote, "My grandfather voted for you in the last election he ever voted in. The reason he voted for you is because you're a decent man. I thank you for your decency."

Prior to the event, anti-Israel protesters gathered to express their opposition to Biden and the attendees entering the Washington, DC, Hilton. Their demonstrations underscored the diverse range of perspectives surrounding the dinner.

Trump's criticism of the White House Correspondents' Dinner highlights the ongoing tensions between him and the media. As the event continues to serve as a platform for humor, political commentary, and reflection, it remains a marker of the dynamics between past and present administrations.
