Former President Donald Trump has confirmed his participation in a debate scheduled for September 10th, where he will face off against Vice President Kamala Harris. This announcement comes just two days after Trump hinted at the possibility of skipping the event. Taking to his Truth Social platform, Trump stated, "I have reached an agreement with the Radical Left Democrats for a Debate with Comrade Kamala Harris," confirming the debate's location in Philadelphia.

Initially, Trump had agreed to participate in the ABC News-hosted debate, which marks his first face-off with Harris since she became the Democratic presidential nominee following the substitution of President Joe Biden. However, on Sunday, Trump created uncertainty by criticizing ABC as biased on social media, and suggesting that his participation may be in question.

Monday saw both campaigns engaged in a tug-of-war over the debate rules. The crux of the debate centered around whether to preserve a rule from Trump's June debate against Biden, where microphones were muted when it was not the candidate's turn to speak. While the Harris campaign insisted on live microphones throughout the September 10th debate, Trump's campaign pushed for "the exact same terms" as the June debate with CNN.

Trump, on the other hand, sent mixed messages during a campaign stop in Virginia, stating that microphone muting "doesn't matter to me," and expressing a preference for the microphones to be on. However, he claimed that the agreement for the September debate was that it would follow the same terms as the last CNN debate.

In a latest development, Trump declared on Tuesday that the rules for the September 10th debate "will be the same as the last CNN debate." As of now, the Harris campaign and ABC have not responded to requests for comment.

This debate holds significant importance as it is the only one that both Trump and Harris have agreed upon thus far. While Trump has advocated for additional debates, Harris's campaign has stated that they would be open to more debates if Trump shows up for the September 10th event.

Notably, Trump's running mate, Senator JD Vance (R-Ohio), is also scheduled to participate in a debate against Harris's running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, on October 1st, which will be aired on CBS News.

As the debate draws near, polls have become a point of reference for the candidates. According to The Washington Post's presidential polling averages of seven battleground states, the contest between Harris and Trump remains closely contested.

With both candidates now confirmed for the debate, all eyes will be on September 10th as Trump and Harris engage in a high-stakes face-off, shedding light on their differing policies and visions for the country.
