In preparation for an outdoor rally in Las Vegas, the campaign of former President Donald Trump is making arrangements to ensure the safety and well-being of attendees as temperatures are expected to exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit (37.8 degrees Celsius). The rally in Nevada marks Trump's second public appearance since being involved in a hush-money scandal.
Nevada, being one of the top battleground states during the November election, holds significance for Trump's campaign strategy. While his unprecedented conviction has energized his supporters and boosted fundraising, its impact on swing voters remains uncertain.
Although temperatures have cooled down slightly since reaching record highs last week, they still remain above normal for this time of year. As Trump is scheduled to speak around noon at a park adjacent to the airport, the campaign has taken measures to combat the heat. Numerous water bottles will be provided to attendees, and cooling tents will be available throughout the venue. Misting fans will also be distributed to help alleviate the intense heat.
To ensure the safety of everyone present, additional emergency medical services have been arranged by the campaign. Additionally, an exception has been made by the U.S. Secret Service to allow personal water bottles and umbrellas to be brought into the rally.
The need for such precautions was underscored during a recent Trump rally in Arizona, where high temperatures resulted in 11 individuals being transported to hospitals for heat exhaustion. Some supporters had waited in line for several hours, unable to enter the venue before it reached maximum capacity. On that day, the temperature had reached a scorching 113 degrees Fahrenheit (45 degrees Celsius).
Trump's rally in Nevada will be his third in the state this year, following a Western swing that included lucrative fundraising events. Notably, Nevada was the only battleground state where Trump outperformed his 2016 against Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. His campaign hopes to leverage his appeal among working-class voters and growing interest from Latino communities to secure victory in the state.
As the event approaches, it remains to be seen how the intense heat will impact attendance and the overall atmosphere of the rally. Nonetheless, Trump's return to Nevada signifies his determination to make a mark in a key state as the political landscape evolves ahead of the 2022 midterms.
