### Trump Campaign Alleges Foreign Interference by UK's Labour Party in US Election
Donald Trump's presidential campaign has lodged a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), accusing the UK's Labour Party of meddling in the US election by assisting the Harris-Walz campaign. The campaign argues that interactions and volunteer activities linked to the Labour Party amount to illegal "foreign contributions."
The complaint points to media reports indicating contact between Labour officials and the Harris campaign. It mentions instances where Labour supporters have travelled to the US to assist Kamala Harris, suggesting this creates a "reasonable inference" of illegal contributions being made.
According to a post on LinkedIn by Sofia Patel, Labour Party’s head of operations, "nearly 100" current and former Labour members plan to go to key US states to campaign. Although this post has since been removed, it added fuel to the allegations.
Reports have also hinted at private meetings between senior officials from both parties. However, there is no evidence that the Harris campaign was aware of or involved in any Labour-coordinated efforts. Labour officials state that any trips made by activists were done in a personal capacity and not funded by the party, thus aligning with FEC rules permitting unpaid foreign volunteers.
Drawing parallels to a prior event, the complaint compares this situation to an international programme in 2016 where the Australian Labor Party sent delegates to support Bernie Sanders' campaign. That programme led to civil penalties of $14,500 each for the party and the Sanders campaign due to financial compensations, which is not claimed in this present case.
This accusation stands as part of a broader context where it's normal for UK political officials to engage with US counterparts, including past interactions between the UK’s Conservative Party and US Republicans. As of now, the Labour Party has not issued any official response regarding these allegations.
