Trump Campaign Accuses CNN of Bias Ahead of Debate with Biden

In a recent interview with Fox News, former President Donald Trump expressed his concerns over the upcoming CNN debate with President Joe Biden, claiming that the network had already set the stage for an unfair exchange by selecting a debate moderator with a history of anti-Trump bias. Trump campaign spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt, criticized CNN hosts Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, who are set to moderate the debate, for their biased coverage of the former president.
Leavitt's remarks came after she was abruptly cut off during an interview with CNN host Kasie Hunt on Monday morning. She argued that the network's decision to silence her when she brought up Tapper's anti-Trump rhetoric only reinforced their point that Trump would not be treated fairly in Thursday's debate.
CNN defended its choice of moderators, describing Tapper and Bash as "well-respected veteran journalists who have covered politics for more than five decades combined." A network spokesperson emphasized their extensive experience in moderating major political debates and expressed confidence that they would ensure a substantial and fact-based discussion.
This back-and-forth between the Trump campaign and CNN underscores the growing tension surrounding the upcoming debate. Earlier this month, Trump predicted a 90% chance of unfair treatment, while acknowledging a potential 10% chance for fairness. Leavitt's criticisms of Tapper's previous remarks that linked Trump to Adolf Hitler were also highlighted during the interview, reflecting ongoing disputes between the two sides.
Despite concerns about bias, Trump remains committed to participating in the debate to deliver his winning message to the American people. The former president expressed his belief that the moderators would try to be fair, acknowledging his previous positive experiences with CNN, including a successful town hall.
As the debate approaches, both Trump and Biden are preparing to face off in what is expected to be a highly anticipated showdown. With the selected moderators now under scrutiny, the focus remains on whether the candidates will be provided an equal opportunity to present their perspectives.
The debate, scheduled for June 27 in Atlanta, will undoubtedly attract significant attention as the nation watches the two contenders exchange views on key issues. Both campaigns will be closely observing the proceedings, hoping for a fair and substantive discussion that allows their candidate's message to resonate with the American electorate.
