Trump Blames Biden for Iran's Weekend Attack on Israel, Igniting Backlash from Former GOP Congressman

In a recent rally, former President Donald Trump laid blame on his successor, Joe Biden, for the Iran-backed attack on Israel over the weekend. Trump boldly claimed that such an attack "would not have happened if we were in office." These statements, however, have been deemed as "insane" by former Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger.
Kinzinger took to social media, branding Trump's comments as outrageous and reminding the public that the attack did, in fact, take place. He referred specifically to the 2020 incident where Iran retaliated against the killing of their top Revolutionary Guards commander, Gen. Qassem Soleimani, by launching ballistic missiles at American bases in Iraq. The attack caused injuries to approximately 100 American soldiers.
Trump's response to the attack was met with criticism, as he seemingly downplayed the injuries suffered by the affected soldiers. Despite the severity of the situation, the former president dismissed the injuries as mere headaches. Kinzinger emphasized the seriousness of the injuries, urging the public not to forget the impact they had on those affected.
Kinzinger further highlighted other instances where Iran had exhibited aggression towards the United States and its allies. He referenced the incidents involving the downing of a high-value drone and an attack on a Saudi oil field. In both cases, Trump's response was criticized for its lack of decisive action.
Over the weekend, Iran carried out an extensive revenge mission, firing an unprecedented number of drones, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles. Iranian military spokesperson, Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, revealed that over 300 launches were conducted, with only 1% evading interception. The attacks resulted in minor damage to an Israeli air base, marking the first direct military assault on Israel by Iran since the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
The fallout from Trump's comments and the subsequent backlash from Kinzinger point towards a deeper divide within the Republican Party regarding approach and handling of foreign policy. The former president's steadfast refusal to acknowledge or take responsibility for the ramifications of past actions has invited criticism from not only political opponents but also from within his own party.
