### Trump and Kemp Showcase Unity in Hurricane Relief Efforts
EVANS, Ga. (AP) - In a striking display of unity following months of private reconciliation, former President Donald Trump and Georgia Governor Brian Kemp came together in the wake of Hurricane Helene to highlight recovery efforts. Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, shared the stage with Kemp, a popular second-term governor, outside Augusta to discuss the ongoing relief work after the hurricane caused significant destruction from Florida up through Georgia and other states.
“I want to thank President Trump for coming back to our state a second time... and keeping the national focus on our state as we recover,” Kemp said, with Trump standing quietly by his side. The scene was set against a backdrop of relief supplies including water, paper products, and diapers.
This public show of solidarity stands in stark contrast to the contentious relationship the two Republicans had following the 2020 presidential election. After losing to Democrat Joe Biden, Trump falsely claimed victory and criticized Kemp for not supporting his efforts to overturn the election results.
Before addressing the media, Trump and Kemp met privately. Accompanying Trump on this trip were top campaign advisers Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita, as well as his daughter-in-law Lara Trump, who serves as his chosen co-chair of the Republican National Committee.
