Donald Trump has launched a baseless attack on Joe Biden, claiming that the former president should be pleased there are no fact checkers in the upcoming first presidential debate for the 2024 election. In a fiery statement posted on Truth Social, Trump labeled Biden a "lying machine" and accused him of spreading "falsehoods".
Trump took to social media to assert that Biden's team was complaining about the lack of fact checkers during the debate. However, Trump dismissed this as "disinformation" and claimed that Biden's team was actually delighted because "there is nobody that's as loose with the TRUTH as Crooked Joe."
CNN will air the highly anticipated debate on Thursday, June 27, at 9pm. The network has already confirmed that there will be no real-time fact checking during the event.
Continuing his tirade, Trump accused Biden of fabricating multiple news stories. He referred to the 51 intelligence officials who signed a letter expressing doubts about the authenticity of Biden's infamous emails. These emails, brought to light by Trump's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, were believed to have "classic earmarks of a Russian information operation."
Trump also mentioned the phrase "Russia, Russia, Russia," alluding to special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into possible Russian meddling in the 2016 election. The investigation took place during Trump's tenure as president.
The former president's comments regarding "suckers and losers" appear to stem from recent events. During a commemorative visit to France for the D-Day anniversary, Biden reminded European allies of Trump's disparaging remarks about soldiers buried at a historic cemetery.
Additionally, Trump accused Biden of fabricating stories about his personal history, such as cheating in college, falsely claiming to be at the top of his law school class, marching for civil rights, and having a 6.2 golf handicap. While Trump's claim about Biden finishing last in law school is false, Biden did exaggerate his academic performance. He stated that he "ended up in the top half of my class" when he actually graduated 76th in a class of 85, as reported by the Associated Press.
Trump concluded his post by referring to Biden as a "walking LYING MACHINE" and suggested the nickname "Lyin' Joe" in addition to "Crooked". A Washington Post analysis revealed that, during his time in office, Trump made 30,573 false claims, averaging 21 lies per day.
As the first presidential debate draws near, tensions escalate between Trump and Biden, setting the stage for a potentially contentious and factually charged showdown.
