Thankfully, no injuries were reported in the accident, which occurred on Liberty Hall Road at around 12:40 p.m. Thursday.

According to Austin Staton, spokesperson for CSX, the train struck a "lowboy semi-truck" that was unable to escape the path of the oncoming train. Witnesses at the scene described the tense moments leading up to the crash, with the trailer becoming stuck on the railroad tracks, leaving the driver with limited time to react.

Eyewitness Sonya Pitt recounted the frantic efforts of the driver to free the trailer, stating, "At that point, the arms started coming down, and we came out here walking real fast to try and get over, tell him to get out of the truck, and he jumped out of the truck and the train was coming. And maybe five seconds later the train hit and destroyed everything."

Thankfully, no injuries were reported in the incident. However, the collision caused significant damage to the trailer and the military vehicle it was hauling, believed to be an M109 howitzer.

Authorities swiftly responded to the scene, with the Goose Creek Police Department and Fire Department working together to ensure the safety of those involved and the surrounding area. As a result of the incident, Liberty Hall and Red Bank Roads were temporarily closed, causing disruption to traffic.

CSX, the railway company involved in the accident, issued a statement expressing their gratitude for the swift response of the local authorities and emphasized the importance of safety at railroad crossings. They urged motorists to remain attentive and adhere to posted signs and warnings when approaching these areas.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are currently underway, as authorities aim to determine the factors leading to the unfortunate incident. As of 6:45 p.m., both Redbank Road and Liberty Hall have been reopened to the public.

This incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers when vehicles and trains share the same spaces. It highlights the importance of vigilance and adherence to safety protocols, ultimately ensuring the well-being of all road users and railway passengers alike.
