CERESCO, Neb. - The law enforcement community in Nebraska is in mourning after a tragic incident that claimed the life of Ceresco Police Officer Ross Bartlett. The 54-year-old officer was killed in the line of duty on Friday evening while conducting a routine traffic stop on Highway 77, approximately one mile south of Ceresco.
The Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) is currently investigating the fatal crash, which occurred around 7:30 p.m. According to the NSP, both vehicles involved were parked on the shoulder, with Officer Bartlett and the driver of the car both seated inside their vehicles. At that moment, a pickup truck rear-ended the police cruiser, propelling it into the stationary car.
Officer Bartlett tragically lost his life, while the 27-year-old driver of the car sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The pickup truck driver, a 49-year-old man from Crete, did not suffer any serious injuries in the collision.
A grieving procession for Officer Bartlett was held the following day, stretching for approximately a mile to honor his service and sacrifice. The procession, led by law enforcement agencies such as the Lincoln Police Department, Omaha Police Department, Lancaster Sheriff's Office, Ceresco Police Department, Ceresco Fire Department, and the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services, paid tribute to Bartlett's dedication and bravery.
Ross Bartlett served as an officer with the Ceresco Police Department since 2017, and he also worked as an investigator for the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services. In addition, he actively served as a member of the Ceresco Volunteer Fire Department. His sudden passing leaves behind a grieving wife and daughter.
