Tragic Bus Accident Claims Seven Lives in Western Mississippi

In a devastating incident, a commercial bus overturned on Interstate 20 in western Mississippi, resulting in the loss of seven lives and leaving dozens more injured, according to the state's highway patrol. On Saturday morning, the bus was traveling west when it abruptly left the highway near Bovina in Warren County and flipped over, without any involvement of other vehicles.

The aftermath of the accident was harrowing, with six passengers pronounced dead at the scene and another tragically succumbing to their injuries at the hospital, as confirmed by a news release. The identities of the victims have not been disclosed by the highway patrol, who are currently investigating the matter.

Heartbreakingly, among those who lost their lives were a six-year-old boy and his 16-year-old sister, as revealed by the Warren County Coroner, Doug Huskey, in an interview with CBS News. The siblings, originally from Guatemala, were identified by their grief-stricken mother. Coroner Huskey also mentioned that several other individuals on board the bus were also from Guatemala.

Emergency response teams were quick to the scene, with thirty-seven passengers rushed to nearby hospitals in Vicksburg and the state capital of Jackson for treatment. The extent of their injuries has not been disclosed.
