### Cyclist Killed in Hit-and-Run Collision on NE Glisan: Third Fatal Bicycle Accident This Year

In a tragic incident early this morning, a cyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle near the intersection of Northeast Glisan and 128th Avenue. According to the Portland Police Bureau, the collision occurred at approximately 2:37 am. When authorities arrived at the scene, they discovered that the driver involved had fled.

This marks the third fatal bike-related accident in Portland this year. The intersection where the accident took place is notable for its recent safety improvements. In 2019, the Portland Bureau of Transportation significantly reconfigured this section of NE Glisan, previously known as a hazardous "raceway," into a safer thoroughfare featuring protected bike lanes and enhanced pedestrian crossings.

Notably, the intersection at Glisan and 128th is also the crossing point for the 130s neighborhood greenway and is situated near Menlo Park Elementary School. PBOT had implemented a two-way protected bike lane and a median island crossing to ensure safer passage for cyclists, particularly given the high volume of foot traffic from students and parents.

The Portland Police are continuing to investigate the accident. They have acknowledged the potential impact on the morning school drop-off routine at Menlo Park Elementary School due to the incident.

As per the city's Fatality Tracker, this collision is the 47th fatal traffic accident on Portland streets this year, a decrease from 55 fatalities at this same point last year.

In a subsequent event, another cyclist was fatally injured in a separate traffic crash around 9:00 am this morning at NE 10th and Mark, as reported by the PPB.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about these incidents to come forward to help identify the individuals responsible for these tragic events.
