In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Mohammad Abu Al Qumsan, a father-of-two from Deir al-Balah, was left devastated when an Israeli strike hit his home, tragically taking the lives of his three-day-old twins, Aysal and Aser, along with his wife, Jumana. The incident occurred as Abu Al Qumsan had left his apartment to collect birth certificates for his newborns, leaving his family vulnerable to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Footage captured by a freelance journalist working for CNN revealed the harrowing scene at Al Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, where Abu Al Qumsan could be seen visibly distraught, pleading with health officials to allow him to see his wife and children one last time. The video showed mourners gathered around him, offering comfort as they gently stroked his forehead. In another heartbreaking moment, Abu Al Qumsan was seen kneeling beside the shrouded bodies, performing Islamic funeral prayers alongside rows of worshippers.

The tragic incident is a stark reminder of the devastating impact of the ongoing conflict on innocent civilians, with hospital officials reporting that at least 23 people, including a nine-month-old baby, have lost their lives due to several Israeli strikes in the area. The Ministry of Health in Gaza has confirmed that Abu Al Qumsan's wife, a pharmacist, and their newborn twins were among those killed.

CNN has reached out to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) for comment on the strike that claimed the lives of Abu Al Qumsan's family.

In an attempt to protect his wife during Israel's relentless bombing campaign, Abu Al Qumsan had relocated his family to an apartment in Deir al-Balah. However, their newfound safety was tragically short-lived, as their home was targeted just days after his wife had celebrated the birth of their twins on Facebook, describing them as a "miracle." The couple had married last summer, prior to the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war.

The conflict between Israel and Hamas began on October 7, with Israeli forces launching a military offensive following attacks from the militant group based in Gaza. According to Israeli authorities, at least 1,200 people have been killed, with more than 250 others being abducted.

The devastating impact of the ongoing Israeli offensive extends beyond the loss of lives, with nearly 40,000 Palestinians, including more than 16,400 children, being killed since the beginning of the conflict, as reported by the Ministry of Health in Gaza. Over 92,000 Palestinians have been injured, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.

The conflict has left hundreds of thousands of survivors grappling with their losses, as entire families have been wiped out, cities have been turned into wastelands, and a humanitarian crisis deepens. The UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, estimates that at least 1.9 million people have been displaced, with the entire population of more than 2.2 million people being at risk of famine and disease.

Despite the urgent need for aid, Israeli restrictions have hindered relief efforts for Gazans affected by the war. Health authorities have reported that they are unable to triage wounded Palestinians, as the medical system has been decimated by Israeli attacks. The Ministry of Health has confirmed that more than 885 health workers have lost their lives, with less than half of Gaza's 36 hospitals remaining partially operational.

The UN's children's agency, UNICEF, has issued a stark warning, stating that the "unrelenting" war in Gaza continues to inflict horrors on thousands of children. It is estimated that there are at least 17,000 unaccompanied or separated children in Gaza, further highlighting the devastating impact of the conflict on the region's most vulnerable population.

Salim Oweis, a communications officer for UNICEF, expressed his shock at the depth of suffering, destruction, and widespread displacement witnessed in Gaza during a recent visit. He emphasized that the footage seen on television only provides a glimpse into the living hell experienced by people for over 10 months.

As the conflict continues, families like Mohammad Abu Al Qumsan's are left grappling with unimaginable loss, underscoring the urgent need for a resolution to end the violence and bring peace to the region.
