### Devastating Gang Attack in Central Haiti Forces Thousands to Flee

A violent assault by heavily armed gang members in central Haiti has driven nearly 6,300 people from their homes, as reported by the United Nations' migration agency. The tragic event resulted in the death of at least 70 individuals, predominantly in the area of Pont-Sondé.

The International Organization for Migration detailed that nearly 90% of the displaced individuals have sought refuge with relatives, while around 12% are being accommodated in various locations, including a local school. The attack took place in the early hours of Thursday, forcing residents to flee in the middle of the night.

One survivor, 60-year-old Sonise Mirano, recounted her harrowing escape. "Gang members came in shooting and breaking into houses to steal and burn. I just had time to grab my children and run in the dark," Mirano, now camping in a park in Saint-Marc, told reporters on Sunday.

The streets of Pont-Sondé were left littered with bodies, many showing signs of execution-style killings, according to Bertide Harace, spokeswoman for the Commission for Dialogue, Reconciliation and Awareness to Save the Artibonite. Initial reports estimated 20 fatalities, but further investigation uncovered more victims, including a young mother, her newborn baby, and a midwife.

In response to the massacre, Prime Minister Garry Conille made a public statement in Saint-Marc, vowing that those responsible would be brought to justice. The community remains in shock as efforts continue to provide relief and support to those affected by this brutal attack.
