The winning ticket was purchased at the Food Castle convenience store in Grand Blanc Township.

Although the attorney representing the lottery club chose not to disclose the names of the three winners, it was revealed that they are residents of Mid-Michigan. Opting for the lump sum option, the winners will receive a total of $305 million after taxes.

Attorney Mark Harder, who is representing the winners, shared that the club members experienced a whirlwind of emotions upon realizing their jackpot win. They expressed feelings of elation, overwhelm, thrill, and nervousness. With their newfound wealth, the winners have exciting plans for their future.

The Breakfast Club intends to retire earlier than expected, purchase a second home in Florida, indulge in more travel, support their immediate families, and make substantial contributions to the community. Despite their massive windfall, the winners plan to continue residing in Mid-Michigan and spend winters in their Florida retreat.

Describing The Breakfast Club as occasional lottery players who are drawn to large jackpots, Harder highlighted their excitement and anticipation for embarking on a new chapter in their lives. One of the club members discovered the win through news reports and, upon checking the numbers on their cell phone, dropped it in shock.

Notably, the winners continued with their regular work routine on the day of the discovery. However, they now anticipate a different life with altered priorities, free from financial constraints. This massive prize is expected to have a generational impact on their family.

By selecting the lump sum cash option, The Breakfast Club reduced the $842 million jackpot to approximately $425 million. After 24% federal income tax withholding amounting to $102 million and Michigan's 4.25% income tax totaling $18 million, the winners are left with their substantial prize.

The $842 million Powerball jackpot stands as the second-largest prize ever won in Michigan, behind a $1.05 billion Mega Millions jackpot claimed by a lottery club from the Novi area in 2021. The Food Castle, where the winning ticket was sold, will also benefit from the win. The store received a commission of $50,000 from the Michigan Lottery, which they plan to donate to employees and community organizations.

Michigan state law mandates the public identification of winners in multi-state lotteries like Powerball, Mega Millions, and Lucky for Life. However, individual winners who are part of a lottery club have the option to remain unnamed. Lottery spokesman Jake Harris mentioned that while it is not uncommon for major jackpot winners to take some time before claiming their prize, a four-month wait without contact is somewhat unusual.

The Breakfast Club's remarkable Powerball win is set to transform their lives and enable them to chase their dreams while making a positive impact on their community.
