BURLINGTON, Vt. - Authorities in Vermont are currently on the lookout for an unknown male suspect who allegedly started a fire outside the office of U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders on Friday. Although the blaze caused minor damages, no injuries were reported from the incident.

According to the Burlington Police Department, the suspect sprayed a possible accelerant on the office door before setting it on fire and quickly fleeing the scene. The motive behind the act remains unknown, and the suspect is still at large.

Authorities have stated that the fire significantly engulfed the door and part of the vestibule, making it difficult for staff members working in the office to exit safely. Quick action from the sprinkler system helped to largely extinguish the flames. The fire department, responding to a call earlier in the day, discovered the fire located between the vestibule, elevator, and entrance door on the third floor office of Senator Bernie Sanders.

As a result of the incident, the office door suffered moderate fire damage, and significant water damage was sustained on much of the third floor, including neighboring offices. In response to the situation, Sanders' office and the surrounding offices were evacuated.

At the time of reporting, a spokesperson for Senator Bernie Sanders had not yet provided a comment on the matter. It is worth noting that Sanders was not present in the office when the fire occurred.

Law enforcement authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
