In a heartbreaking incident that occurred on Saturday at a boat club in Michigan, a car crashed into the establishment, resulting in the tragic deaths of two children and multiple injuries. Michigan authorities have now identified the suspect involved and announced the charges she faces.

Marshella Marie Chidester, a 66-year-old Newport resident, has been charged with two counts of second-degree homicide, as well as two counts of operating while intoxicated causing death. Additionally, she faces four counts of operating while intoxicated causing serious injury, according to a press release from the Monroe County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

The vehicle plowed into the boat club, plunging 25 feet into the establishment and causing the deaths of eight-year-old Alanah Phillips and five-year-old Zayn Phillips, who were siblings. The devastating incident left nine individuals seriously injured, with two victims - identified as the mother and brother of the Phillips children - in critical condition, as reported by the children's aunt.

Authorities provided an update on the injured victims, stating that a 31-year-old woman and an 11-year-old boy are currently being treated for critical injuries. Additionally, a 16-year-old girl, a 14-year-old boy, and an 18-year-old woman are all in serious condition and receiving medical attention. Four women, ranging in age from 57 to 70, sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospitals, while another injured individual sought treatment independently.

Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough, visibly shaken, described the scene at a press conference shortly after the tragedy occurred, emphasizing the chaos and intense emotions experienced by those directly involved and witnesses. The sheriff's office continues to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure the identification of all injured individuals and witnesses.

Chidester now faces severe penalties if convicted. With murder charges carrying a maximum punishment of life in prison, she could potentially be sentenced to 15 years in prison for each charge of driving while intoxicated causing death. Additionally, the other charges could result in a maximum of five years behind bars. Fines ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 are also a possibility.

Following the incident, Chidester was transported to Monroe County Jail, where she is currently held on a bond of $1,500,000. Her upcoming court appearances are scheduled for April 30 and May 6.

Authorities urge anyone with information that may aid in the investigation to contact the Monroe County Sheriff's Office at 734-240-7530. As the investigation unfolds, the public will be updated with further developments and details surrounding this devastating incident.
