### Steven Cheung to Step into the Role of White House Communications Director
Steven Cheung, a seasoned figure in Donald Trump's political orbit, has been appointed as the new communications director at the White House, according to an informed source.
Cheung has been a prominent presence in Trump's campaigns since 2016, serving as a core member of his close-knit team. Under the leadership of Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita, Cheung played a pivotal role in shaping the campaign's aggressive communication tactics. His previous experience with the Ultimate Fighting Championship honed his skills in delivering biting, sometimes shocking, statements that resonated with Trump's combative rhetorical style.
Despite maintaining a low profile throughout the campaigns, Cheung's statements often created ripples, playing a crucial part in Trump's strategy to outmaneuver opponents in the GOP primary, such as the early criticism of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
Raised in California by Chinese immigrant parents, the 42-year-old Cheung carved his path in the political landscape through a series of engagements in Republican campaigns before switching to the UFC and subsequently joining Trump's inaugural presidential bid in 2016. Post-election, he served as special assistant to the president and assistant communications director at the White House. His journey continued with Trump's 2020 reelection campaign and several other notable GOP campaigns before returning to support Trump's 2024 efforts.
Known for his sharp criticism of "fake news," Cheung, alongside senior advisers Jason Miller, Danielle Alvarez, Brian Hughes, and spokesperson Karoline Leavitt, managed to forge working relationships with the media, balancing fiery rhetoric with strategic communications.
In another related move, Trump has recently announced Taylor Budowich as the deputy chief of staff for communications and personnel. The appointment of a new press secretary remains pending, though various names are being considered.
Cheung's transition to the White House as communications director marks another significant step in Trump's ongoing campaign as he positions himself for the 2024 elections.
