**Steve Kerr's Controversial Remarks Following Trump's 2024 Election Victory**
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr appeared to approach the news of Donald Trump's 2024 Presidential Election win over Kamala Harris with a measured tone – at least initially. Kerr, who previously endorsed President Joe Biden in 2020 and then backed Vice President Kamala Harris when she secured the Democratic nomination for 2024, found himself navigating an unexpected political landscape with Trump as the President-Elect once more.
Kerr, a vocal critic of Trump and his supporters, expressed his views when prompted to comment on the election results during a press interaction on Wednesday. Reflecting on the democratic process, Kerr stated, "I believe in democracy. I think the American people have spoken and voted for Trump. I want him to do well the next four years. I want our country to do well." His remarks seemed thoughtful and composed.
However, Kerr soon waded into more contentious territory, making a controversial joke that encompassed themes of rape, murder, and election fraud. He remarked, "I'm just thankful there wasn't any voting fraud this time. Last time, all those illegal immigrants who crashed the border, raped and murdered people and then voted six times, that was unfortunate. But thankfully this time everything was clean. It's great that every election has been really valid except for that last one four years ago. Twinkle in my eye as I say that, in case you didn't see it."
Given Kerr's known liberal stance, his comments did not face internal repercussions from the NBA, an organization whose values and the majority of its players align closely with Kerr's perspective. However, his remarks did not go unnoticed on social media, where many criticized his insensitivity and the troubling nature of his joke.
Kerr continued with a touch of sarcasm when addressing his team before their game against the Boston Celtics. "I just told them in our meeting this morning, 'Let's make America great again and beat the Celtics,'" he said. The Warriors went on to secure a victory against the Celtics, winning 118-112, which pushed their season record to 7-1.
