**Steve Kerr Addresses Trump's Presidential Victory with a Mix of Support and Criticism**
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has been vocal about his political opinions, particularly in relation to President-elect Trump. Kerr, who endorsed President Biden and then-Vice President Kamala Harris during the summer, expressed his hope during the Democratic National Convention that Trump's time in office was coming to an end. However, despite Kerr's wishes, Trump has achieved a political comeback, winning the election and poised to be the 47th president starting January 20.
In a press meeting on Wednesday prior to the Warriors’ game against the Boston Celtics, Kerr responded to Trump's victory by emphasizing his belief in democracy. "I believe in democracy. I think the American people have spoken and voted for Trump. I want him to do well the next four years. I want our country to do well," Kerr stated.
However, Kerr didn’t shy away from making a sharp remark regarding Trump's previous claims of election fraud, which had stirred controversy four years ago. "I'm just thankful there wasn't any fraud this time. Last time, all those illegal immigrants who crashed the border, raped and murdered people and then voted six times, that was unfortunate," he commented.
Kerr’s mention of rape and immigrants sparked backlash on social media. One user criticized, "Steve Kerr should be ashamed of himself. Laken Riley & other innocent Americans were raped & killed by illegal immigrants... How tone deaf can you be?" Another remarked that Kerr’s comments were "absolutely disgusting" and deserving of justice.
Despite the criticism, Kerr reaffirmed his dedication to the democratic process and his country's well-being. "I believe in democracy. I believe in the will of the people. I will do everything I can to support my country and our government. I want nothing but the best for us," Kerr elaborated. He reflected on the complex global issues affecting the United States and expressed hope that Trump would achieve success for the nation's benefit.
In a lighter moment, Kerr conveyed his message to the Warriors by borrowing Trump’s famous campaign slogan. "I just told them in our meeting this morning, 'Let's make America great again and beat the Celtics,'" Kerr said.
Fox News has projected Trump as the next president after he managed to secure victories in key battleground states, overturning expectations and reshaping the political landscape.
