In the lead-up to the Paris Olympics, the Golden State Warriors' head coach, Steve Kerr, and star player, Stephen Curry, have once again voiced their support for gun control following the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania.

Kerr, who has been a prominent advocate against gun violence for years, spoke out about the tragic incident, deeming it a stark reminder of the prevalence of guns within the United States. Kerr's personal connection to this issue stems from the loss of his father, Malcolm Kerr, who was fatally shot by members of the Islamic Jihad Organization in Beirut when Steve was just 18 years old.

Expressing his concerns in a press conference in Abu Dhabi, Kerr acknowledged the grim reality of a 20-year-old with an AR-15 attempting to harm the former president. He stated, "It's hard to process everything, and it's scary to think about where this goes because of the issues that already exist in the country. So this is a terrible day."

Stephen Curry, who is currently representing Team USA in the upcoming Paris Olympics, echoed Kerr's sentiments. Curry lamented the sad state of affairs in the United States, emphasizing the need for meaningful action on gun control. He commented, "Obviously, gun control first and foremost because the fact that that's even possible for somebody to have an attack like that."

The Olympics, a global stage for athletes to showcase their talents, also present an opportunity for individuals to advocate for important causes. Team USA's basketball team, which includes both Kerr and Curry, will undoubtedly use their platform to promote social change during the Paris Olympics in 2024.

With their history of political and social advocacy, Kerr and Curry embody the spirit of athletes leveraging their influence to create positive change. As the games approach, their voices will once again amplify the urgent call for gun control, hoping to contribute to a safer and more peaceful future in the United States.

The Paris Olympics is not only a celebration of athletic prowess but also an occasion for nations to unite and address pressing global issues. With Kerr and Curry leading the charge, the significance of this event extends beyond the court and becomes a call for progress and reform.
