Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon surrendered on Monday to law enforcement to start his four-month prison term for contempt of Congress. He arrived at the Federal Correctional Institute Danbury in Danbury, Connecticut, just before noon to commence his sentence. The Supreme Court had recently denied Bannon's request to remain out of prison during the appeals process after he filed an emergency appeal with the high court.

In October 2022, Bannon was sentenced to four months in prison for defying a subpoena from the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. Despite facing imprisonment, Bannon expressed his pride in beginning his sentence. Addressing supporters before entering the Danbury facility, he claimed that he was standing up against tyranny, the alleged corruption within the Department of Justice, and prominent political figures such as Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden.

Interestingly, Bannon was accompanied by several individuals, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Republican Senate candidate Royce White, former Blackwater CEO Erik Prince, and a priest. As supporters and counter-protesters engaged in vocal disputes, ABC News asked Bannon if he had any regrets about his actions. The former Trump adviser stood firm, expressing not only his lack of regret but also his pride in his defiance. He emphasized that going to prison was not a concern for him.

In a message to his supporters, Bannon assured them that he would continue supporting former President Donald Trump's presidential campaign from behind bars. He announced that his War Room podcast would thrive, stating that the movement did not solely rely on his voice. Bannon concluded his speech by proclaiming "Victory or death" and surrendering to authorities at Danbury.

It is important to note that Bannon, aged 70, was ordered by a U.S. district judge to report to prison by July 1. Bannon joins other Trump advisers who have faced prison time for refusing to cooperate with the Jan. 6 panel, with former Trump adviser Peter Navarro having reported to prison in March.

As Bannon begins his sentence, the political landscape will undoubtedly continue to be influenced by the ongoing controversy surrounding the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.
