In a recent regulatory filing, Stellantis, the automaker behind Chrysler, Dodge, Ram, and Jeep models, announced a recall of more than 1 million vehicles in the United States. The recall is due to a software issue that may prevent rear-view cameras from displaying.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the problem stems from radio software that could potentially hinder the signal necessary for the rear-view camera to function properly. Stellantis began investigating the issue in October of last year, meticulously reviewing warranty data, field records, and customer assistance records until February.
This latest recall adds to the growing number of vehicles that Stellantis has recalled in 2024. According to NHTSA data, the automaker has already recalled a staggering total of 2,251,746 vehicles this year alone, spread across 30 separate recalls.
Interestingly, Tuesday's recall is the second significant recall that Stellantis has issued in June. In fact, the company has already issued a total of eight recalls this month, as reported by NHTSA data. The first widespread recall in June occurred on the 6th, affecting more than 211,000 vehicles due to disabled electronic stability control systems.
Throughout the year, Stellantis has been grappling with several other large-scale recalls. In mid-February, nearly 200,000 vehicles were recalled, followed by another recall a week later involving more than 338,000 vehicles experiencing loss of control issues. Additionally, in March, the automaker recalled over 350,000 vehicles.
This latest recall by Stellantis highlights the company's commitment to addressing safety concerns promptly and efficiently. Owners of affected vehicles are urged to contact their local dealerships to schedule a repair as soon as possible to rectify the rear-view camera software issue. Stellantis continues to work closely with the NHTSA to ensure the safety and satisfaction of its customers.
